Issues 348-359: In addition, there appears to have been some editing of previous issues.
Issue 348: A deleted scene from the English edition has one of the emissaries from the Black Temple accosting a servant girl. The Persian woman tries to fight him off, and is burned to death with the Holy Blaze for her trouble. The emissaries so misuse the "help" that another dies, and a third chooses to stab herself rather than submit to their evil advances.
The Great Lawlord comes across the bloody scene, and slaps Leo around. He is horrified by the conduct of these visitors. While we were told the Great Lawlord was the height of evil, he really does seem to be trying to do a good job running the Persian Holy Temple. (He's certainly not as evil as Iron Boy's friends.)
This also explains why the Great Lawlord would choose to set up Leo next issue. He had more than ample reason to punish the man. (English readers were given no such motivation.)
This leaves me wondering what other 'improprieties' were edited out of the English edition.
Issue 349: As before, the Great Lawlord draws Leo out of his sanctuary and leads him to Sainted Jade's compound. Nine Continents makes short work of Leo, and takes him prisoner. New to this issue is an actual confrontation between Iron Boy and the mysterious masked woman.
She is known to the Black Temple men, but they do not seem to know of her mission.
Issues 350-356: These issues were cobbled together into English issue #55. This is the most extreme of rewrites from all the Jademan America titles, as they struggled to wrap things up.
Issue 350: The big surprises are here from the start. Iron Boy's battle with Nine Continents was much longer than originally shown.
Issue 351: With a longer battle for Nine Continents and Iron Boy, we see that Nine did not simply finish off his youthful foe with the first three forms of Buddha's Palm. It looks like he went up through every move, including Buddha's Reincarnation. (But not Wrath of a Million Buddha's.)
Iron Boy actually surprises Nine in the battle with higher levels of the Holy Blaze. It was not a total one-sided affair as we were shown.
It did seem odd to have all this lead-up of Iron Boy 1) Learning higher levels of the Holy Blaze and 2) realizing the Great Lawlord was going to betray him, and then do nothing with all that information. Now we know, Iron Boy did act on all of this information.
Issue 353: There is a long fist fight between Nine Continents and the Great Lawlord. He did not simply whip out the 'Buddha Sword' and kill the guy in a few panels. It took several issues to put the big guy down. (As Nine observed: "He had the heart of a lion.")
Sainted Jade also had a longer scene where she struggles to heal her wounds, appealing to her countrymen for aid. It looks like it's just her and Tossy. She also sees a strange fume coming from Iron Boy's head.
Issue 354: Nine Continents collapses after the battle, while Iron Boy gets to his feet, feeling pretty good.
Seeing total victory within his grasp, he dispatches the black temple men to rip off the parts of Nine Continents (at least that is how they used to write the dialogue).
But they did not count on the 4th form: 'The Peal of Buddha's Thunder'. Nine Continents stops their attack dead, and then while holding them by the wrists, tells them what he does with foul dogs who desecrate innocent temple girls.
To the shock of Leo and Iron Boy, they fall to the ground dead. Nine Continents is not helpless at all after killing the Great Lawlord.
The Leo Lawlord says he no longer wants to fight, and Iron Boy is livid. To the shock of the assembled heroes, Iron Boy dispatches his 'dear friend' with a fiery palm strike.
I should point out here that this Leo is not the father of Iron Heart, the blonde girl currently in the company of Samsun. That man is someone entirely different, who will feature prominently in the coming year of stories.
Nine and Iron take a powder over a bridge to discuss their differences. (Taking a cue here from Kurt Rock's helpful summary). Nine rebuffs Iron Boy's attempt at forming a team-up, and Nine also fails in talking Iron Boy into staying to help Sainted Jade rebuild the Persian Temple. They fight!
Issue 356: Iron Boy finally pays the price for all these issues of tormenting Nine Continents. His inner reserves sagging, Iron Boy has his arm severed by the Force of Buddha's Palm.
There is no mercy in the eyes of Nine Continents. He prepares a killing blow. But the masked woman has been watching the battle, and moves to save Iron Boy. Taking advantage of Nine's exhaustion (he did just defeat two of the greatest fighters on the planet), she makes off with her precious cargo. Nine is quite frustrated that he has failed to kill Iron Boy, even though he took an arm.
Sainted Jade has the celebration ceremony for Nine Continents, crying tears over the fact that the great warrior will not stay to be her king. Meanwhile, the masked woman struggles to heal Iron Boy of his injuries.
It is unknown if she is aware of his past mistreatment of women, but she does everything she can to save his life. Taking off her mask, she is revealed to be a beautiful young woman. This is what she looks like with that mask off, on Issue #359:
Nine Continents and Sainted Jade have a long discussion after the Temple party that English readers were not shown. He gives her the speech of how he has to go find out how his nephews (Samsun and Devilito) are doing. (Interesting how Devilito has the same name in the Indonesian version.)
I'll quote here from Kurt Rock's summary: "After calm down, Continents figure out that the stance that Lady used is Mystic White Bone Claw from the Pure Hell clan. This stance was once acquired by Jade but she never uses it."
And "As Iron Boy wakes up, the Lady readily inform him that she will teach him Pure Hell Healing Meditation technique and his loyalty as an exchange. This technique shall fully repel the Buddha’s Palm remaining threat in his body."
This issue closes with the famous scene from Issue #55 with Nine Continents striding boldly into the Sunset. (Although I would think that if he is heading home to China, then this means he is marching boldly into the Sunrise.)
I'll quote here the rest of Kurt Rock's summary through Indonesian Issue 59:
The Lady must be heading back to China since Pure Hell is a supposed to be an evil extinct clan from China. And as Continents speaks, the Lady has already travelled with Iron Boy and met her comrade on the way. Jade promised to come to China to see Continents later, once her job in Holy Temple is finish.
A family is running away from something unknown, & finally their trace was found by a beast looking man. Continents figure out the beast is practicing a mystic power which requires the user to kill others in order to develop their power to higher level. The beast is angered & attack Continents.
Meanwhile some place in the south, dead bodies is seen all around. One survivor is being chased by 8 burglars. They were fast; one of them was left behind since his leg is injured. Then, the scene shifted to Samsun & Iron Heart where they are on the way to look for her father which she has not been seen since childhood. As soon as they step down from the rental boat, the boat owner is harassed by the left behind burglar. Samsun & Iron Heart engage in a fight with him where it can be seen Heart’s martial has been better than she originally is.
Back to the other 7 culprit, they manage to keep up with their prey. It is revealed that actually, their prey is once a comrade but has betrayed them. Samsun tells Iron Heart that he once met her father (King Lion) and knows very well of his martial arts style.
Therefore Samsun can quickly recognize if anyone uses the Lion Style, it means the person is King Lion’s disciples. Back to Continents, after he defeated the beast, more of the beast accomplices surface to attack Continents. End of Issue 58
-----------------
Hedron Note: Pay close attention to the new character on the cover of Issue #358. He is dark haired, powerfully-muscled, with a ponytail. Sort of like a cross of Conan the Barbarian and Devilito. This man will save Nine Continent's life after issue #399.
-----------------
After defeating the beasts, the boy from the family saved by Continents, tells him that the beasts clan has killed many people in this town. His name is Jiwa Rantau [Indo].
Continents agrees to take him as a disciple. Continents wishes to see Brilliant Monk of the shaolin temple in order to get information regarding Pure Hell clan.
Samsun greets the man who uses Lion Style after he finished out the 7 burglars and asks if he is Lion’s disciple. The man runs as he thinks of possible trouble caused by this couple. He is then stopped by Balung Perkasa [Indo] who wants to capture him for an unrevealed reason. After defeating him in a fight, Balung Perkasa was provoked & tries to kill the man but was stopped by Samsun. In a fair competition, Samsun wins and introduces himself to Balung Perkasa. Having heard of Samsun’s good deeds, Balung Perkasa agrees for a coin toss to decide who shall have the right to capture the man first.
From the coin toss, Balung Perkasa gets this right. Balung Perkasa father’s name is Gempar Mega [Indo], who was a good justice enforcer during his life. At a ruin, an old man named Palang Pana [Indo] tells Balung Perkasa that this man was not the one of the killers who kills their families and neighbors. Old man describes the face of the killers’ leader who also, uses the Lion Stance. Balung Perkasa forces him to talk. Since the killers are also King Lion’s disciple, it makes sense questioning another of King Lion’s disciples. The man agrees to show who responsible, Copper Lion.
The man brings Balung Perkasa, Samsun & Iron Heart to Copper Lion, the 5th disciples of King Lion. Fights started between them & another 2 King Lion Disciples, Skinny Lion & Handsome Lion.
Nine Continents & Jiwa Rantau was about to arrive Shaolin Temple when they say fire around the temple. The Strange Lady who helped Iron Boy is stealing Martial Arts Book from the Shaolin Library. Outside, Pole Star, leader of Sapta Duta Kartika have to penetrate the shaolin human barricade in order for them to escape the temple. After escape, they now stumbled upon Continents. End of Issue 59
-----------------
Hedron note: So Iron Heart's father is "King Lion", not to be confused with "Leo the Lawlord", currently pushing up daisies back in Persia.
Also, I kept expecting the boy in blue (Kurt Rock gives his Indonesian name as 'Jiwa Rantau') to betray Nine Continents, like so many other 'helpful boys' in previous adventures. But I was mistaken, this boy really does want to help Continents and friends later on.
(Finally, I don't know if Kurt Rock's Indonesian Issue 59 is a double issue, so apologies if I skipped ahead here from Chinese issue #359.)
